D-War: Ambition of Korean Monster to Invade U.S.A

The feast of high grade f/x monster movie D-War began when a young kid, Ethan Kendrick (Cody Erens) exposed to something radiating from an old Korean chest in Jack (Robert Foster) antiques shop. Realizing The Dark Knight Curse significance of this event, Jack gives the kid a powerful pendant, and speaks candidly to him about a mystical event that transpired a long time earlier.

In a small Korean village, five hundred years ago, a girl named Narin was born with a Youijoo(a magical pearl that bestow omnipotence)inside her. The heavens sent the protector Bochun and his apprentice Haram, to ensure that when it came time, the girl must be sacrificed to the Imoogi, serpents who want to morph into dragons by obtaining the magical Youijoo. When the day came, the dark Imoogi, Buraki, and his army destroyed Narins village, and Haram taking Narin with him to the giant serpent which going to fulfill its destiny to become a heavenly dragon by absorb the power inside her. But Haram and Narin who had fallen in love unable to sacrifice their love to the benevolent Imoogi, they decide to kill their self together. The Imoogis destiny was unfulfilled and it would have to wait another five hundred years until the next Youijoo appears.

Back to the future when Jack explains that Ethan has been impregnated with the spirit of Haram, and tells him to seek out the modern equivalent of his beloved Narin, who will recognizable by a red dragon tattoo on her shoulder. And when the woman reaches her 20th birthday, it seems, she and Ethan will have the power to reincarnate Imoogi as dragons again.

20 years later, when Ethan has become a TV news reporter (Jason Behr) in L.A, he is closely following a series of unexplainable disasters occurring in the area, a signal that the Imoogies have made its way to L.A, wreaking havoc and destruction in order to finds Sarah(Amanda Brooks), the reincarnation of Narin. Through a series of unlikely coincidences, Ethan meets Sarah and tries to help her escape the wrath of Buraki and his army. With the entire city under arms, Ethan and Sarah must decide their own fate whether to defy the will of Imoogies once again and let the city be destroyed or deliver Sarah to the giant serpents.

D-War is the most extravagant Korean movie ever made, with eight years used up for planning, production and post, and over two years to shooting the live-action till wrapped, and become South Koreas biggest-budget production by far (reportedly $70 million). Budget for the feature, which was entirely financed in Korea, but stars and is set mostly in the U.S.

It was the biggest ambition of Korean filmmaker/director Shim Hyung Rae, that his previous movie Yonggary aka Reptilian, which had a same theme too but a very low grossing movie, by the way of the computer science and technology are mastered here with his Yonggu Arts and Entertainment company, made it perfectly clear that the director has made a far, far away progress from Reptilian. And the most ambitious project of this movie is to creating the IMOOGI and made it alive by a very impressive CGI, imoogi itself is a Korean word for a mythical creature that evolved over time and for this movie director Shim draws it as a defiant serpent which wants to morph as a dragon, and making a lot of chaos in this planet in order to fulfill what its needs. This movie is now looking for a local release at July, and ready to invade U.S in August (scheduled at Aug 02, 2007), so the questions now, can this Korean monster movie cracking the U.S and international market with its story and high tech level?
